When I was signing up for a tutorial in the summer, I looked at what looked interesting. I have always been really strong about civil rights, and had the state of mind that everyone should be treated equally. The only past knowledge I really had was about how much everyone in this class has like Black and their civil rights. I have always been really strong about the united farm workers because I read about it on my own growing up in school. Most of us can relate to these issue personalty or by family members because most of us are Black or Hispanic in this school.
Personal Identity and Managing Personal Values Who I identify as, the groups that I belong to, and the values I have will knowingly and unknowingly attach a level of privilege and power that can and will impact my professional identity and the work I do as a professional. The purpose of this paper is to examine how my identity could impact my work as a social worker, how my personal values conflict with my professional values, and to recall a time when I reduced the participation in oppression. The groups of which I belong can impact my ability to help individuals and communities in a number of ways.
PER REPORTER: Christy said Tyler was out of school for eleven days and was reported to the truancy officer (Ms. Wilder). Christy said she was informed by Ms. Wilder to report the following allegations to CPS. Christy said Ms. Wilder told her when she spoke with Tyler’s mother (Mary) she sounded disoriented as is she was possibly on something. Even though I have experience helping to write IEPs in the last two years, it was really just from what I gleaned from sitting in IEP meetings and listening to colleagues as they reviewed IEPs with families. This class provided much more detail to me, about the thought process behind each section of the IEP (PLOPs, measureable goals) and why the IEP is developed the way it is. For example, the Present Levels of Performance are written to give a clear picture of the student – where are they now? What are their academic and functional needs? How does their disability affect their time in the regular education classroom?
During 2012, there were significant policy changes that had implications for the training and development of teachers in the further education and skills sector. This guidance aims to support teacher educators and teacher training providers to both understand and respond to these developments. Agency Project Reflection When this project was first introduced, I was not quite sure what I wanted to do, or what the project was asking me to do. After listening to examples, my group and I decided we wanted to deter people from buying something. Originally, we wanted to go to the Apple Store and put up sticky notes explaining the working conditions of those making Apple products. We eventually decided to go to a market and put sticky notes on animal products explaining why they are bad for the environment and people's health to deter people from buying them. We decided to go to a market over Apple because Apple is very small, and people are less likely to be deterred from buying something that affects others versus something that affects
Another advantage to been an observer was that I aware of the physical environment, I could observe in detail my surrounding and take mental images and notes in my head of true nature of the hoarding environment. I was also acutely aware not to express any oppressive, discriminatory non-verbal cues (shock at what I observed; feeling like I wanted to cover my mouth and nose to elevate my nausea) and aware of my internal dialogue (nobody should live like this; placing my own judgments and personal values). After reading this week’s chapters, there were many highlights that I thought were important and interesting. The first highlight was from chapter 12. It is the components of a curriculum and what a curriculum looks like. I really enjoyed reading the first four components in chapter 12
In my field placement, I conduct myself in a respectful and professional manner. Dressing appropriately for work and communicating with clients and colleagues in a respectful manner. In the first few days of my field placement I had a rather emotional reaction to a few cases involving teenage victims. Through discussion and self-awareness, I realized the reason for my reaction.
1 I would like to start this reflection paper by saying a big Thank you to this opportunity that was giving to me as a first year student in college. The SI Leader experience was not only to work and get my hours done but it was and continued to be one of the greatness experience as a first year student. This experience taught me the importance of helping others through education and also learning from them. During my first SI session, I was lucky because I knew the students already from the regular class before the SI session. My first session was based on being able to develop their readings skills so that they can be able to annotate what they are reading.
My PSIII internship was a very rewarding and enlightening experience. I was quickly welcomed into Carseland school not only by my teacher mentor, but by the whole school community. While at the school, I taught grade 3/4; science, math, language arts, health, and gym. I feel I was exceptionally lucky to have taught under my teacher mentor Kelsey Styan. Not only did I find her very welcoming and inclusive, but she was also a resourceful and dedicated mentor.
It is imperative to be knowledgeable about the different elements that come with this career. Specifically, the role of ethics and how different populations are often vulnerable. I believe that everyone should be treated equally, and I will act as such. Everyone and anyone should be given equal opportunities, especially in the training room. This includes one-on-one attention, explanations, conversations, etc.
