In the play of “The Diary of Anne Frank”, the author showed his/her audience how the character’s showed their true colors and inner personalities. Mostly, the traits demonstrated were shown through fear, as this pressed the characters to to act under pressure in what may or could have been a dangerous situation. An example of this is when Mr.Van Daan was arguing amongst the others. “Mrs. Van Daan (kneeling before him, pleading). Do you want to be dragged off to a concentration camp? Are you going to stand there and wait for them to come up and get you? Do something, I tell you!/Mr. Van Daan (pushing her aside). Will you keep still!” He demonstrated unkind behavior, even to his loved ones when under pressure. In other words, he was selfish,
