As I strive to achieve great academic success and leadership at Montana State University, I hope that my previous experiences will catalyze this process. Using my interests in academics, participation in extracurricular activities, and my own strengths, I hope to become a strong leader. I know I can achieve being both a scholar and an example for other students by utilizing my previous experiences. When I start my journey at Montana State, I expect to find students with common academic interests as myself. My goal is to connect with these students, who appreciate education in a similar way I do, in order to help each other understand topics or lessons that we will learn.
Essential characteristics of the principal’s role have been identified by groups such as the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium, and the Educational Leadership Constituent Council. Standards from both these organizations require that a principal have a vision of learning, advocate for students, collaborate with teachers and the community, provide a safe environment, act with integrity, and understand the social and political confines in which we live. As noted by Sergiovanni in The Principalship, “For Parochial school principals, the religious dimension must be added to any array of roles and responsibilities that define the principalship.” (2015, p. 43)
The first domain in the Florida Principals Leadership Standards, Student Achievement, is divided into two separate Standards. The first standard is about Student Learning Results and achieving previously set standards. Out of the many leadership styles that were discussed in class, I felt that the path-goal theory fit the purpose of this standard the best. The implementation of path Goal-theory begins by identifying the objectives to be reached as “The school 's learning goals are based on the state 's adopted student academic standards and the district 's adopted curricula” (“The Florida Principal,” n.d.). It is an honor to be selected to apply to the National Honor Society. One of the values that the National Honor Society has is leadership. To be a leader, one needs to be flexible, have strong communication skills, courage, responsibility, and must be tough-minded, but fair. In today’s highly litigious society it is of utmost importance for an education leader to have a good understanding of rules and regulations pertaining to the field of education. Knowledge of constitutional provisions and a handle on up to date local, state and federal requirements is a must for someone in educational leadership role. The nature of the population we serve is changing continuously. Educators need to be mindful of the rights of people protected by the constitution and make an effort to develop policies designed to protect those rights.
I have an ambitious goal, but a necessary one. I am highly interested in attending the Pioneer Prep Leadership Institute for many different reasons, but one reason would be that it most definitely encompasses my passion for pursuing a higher education. I hope to gain an experience that allows me to make that leap out of my comfort zone. If it takes a village to raise a child, the school should represent the community where the students live. Diversity leads to open communication, understanding, tolerance. As a teacher, my goals will be clear to my students: Don't just show up; do be present every class.

I have strong leadership in my program and it builds respect, parent, teacher and community collaboration and a trusting and well nurtured relationship between teacher and students. Teachers are the life-blood of school districts across the United States. They are masters of their specific grade-level content and work tirelessly to manage the learning and well-being of their students. Teachers are the academic leaders of the learning environment within their classrooms and collaborate with their students throughout the year in order to facilitate learning, and foster creativity and problem solving. However, over the last thirty years, teacher leadership has taken on a whole new meaning.
