As the former Principal of PS/ IS 137 Rachel Jean Mitchell from September 2011 until June 2015, I implemented systems and structures to develop teacher pedagogy. I, directly and indirectly, lead Teacher Teams on the grades, across the grades and content, to enhance the quality of teaching to enhance instruction resulting in improved student achievement. I’ve engaged our Tier 3 Principals in a study Group focused on Action Research: Driven by Data by Paul Bambrick to strengthen their understanding and effective use of assessment practices. After a meeting with Barbara Freeman, Superintendent of Disti5rct 13 and the Office of Supervisory Support, I worked closely with the Teacher Development and Evaluation Coach (TDEC) to provide targeted professional learning sessions for Assistant Principals and Teacher Leader in our District to cultivate leadership. In collaboration with the Superintendent’s District Team, I engaged the Principals and Assistant Principals in district 13 in work around the Districts Expectations, Vison, Goals, and Policies to maintain districtwide expectations focused on maintaining a culture for teaching, learning and improved leaning outcomes to students in all schools. As Principal, I was faced with leading a school community to excellence and increasing staff, families and student moral. I began engaging in ongoing collaborations with the school leadership team to assess needs and organize celebrations of new beginnings. My Parent Coordinator, Family Worker, Guidance Counselor, PTA and AP to lead monthly celebrations.
