Pros and Cons of Abortion What is the definition of abortion? Abortion is the termination of a human pregnancy or the killing of a human being. The debate about abortion is set between two contenders: Pro-Choice and Pro-Life. Pro-Choice are the group of people who believe that the mother has a choice when it comes to abortion. Pro-Life are the group of people who believe that the fetus shouldn’t be aborted and that the child should have a chance at life. There are many key factors that may lead to abortion such as rape, incest, or teen pregnancy. Yet, there are many reasons why certain people believe that abortion shouldn’t be an option. They could argue that abortion is murder, adoption could be a definite option, medical complications regarding harm to the reproductive system, or that the abortion would cause psychological pain and stress for the mother. The influences of this stance could mainly be religion and may vary due to different occurrences. Religion could create a foundation in being Pro-Life because killing a human being would be a sin, in the Catholic faith. On the topic of abortion is murder, they believe that the fetus is human being. The fetus has a beating heart and killing the innocence would be a crime. The baby has a beating heart around the first two weeks of conception. It all depends on what you consider a human being is, ranging from in or out from the womb. Adoption is always an option because it gives a chance for a human being to live in this world rather than the life being cut short. The woman could still have the baby, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that she would have to be the care giver. The cost of adoption is highly expensive and would cost almost up to $10,000 according to Randall K. O’Bannon in his article, Adoption: A loving, life-saving, realistic option, in the Nation Right to Life News. At least half pay up to $5,000 and if a relative decides to adopt then they might even pay little to nothing. People have different beliefs and mindsets because everyone goes through different experiences. However, these people believe in the choice of abortion because of many distinctive reasons. Reasons for example would be that abortion isn’t murder, adoption isn’t the alternative, that it is a safe procedure, and that if the victim was raped it would cause psychological harm. Of course there are many other reasons regarding to the prochoice topic, but I will break down and go into depth about why these choices are related to the choice of abortion. According to the stance of being Pro-Choice, abortion is not murder because the fetus is connected to the umbilical cord which is connected to the mother inside of the womb. The fetus isn’t a human because it lives off of the mother and is considered only a human after birth. They believe adoption isn’t a great alternative because the mother would still be stuck with the choice of giving up the newborn or not. Some people believe that abortion is a safe procedure and that it doesn’t effect the body in any way. Rape is a serious and unfortunate incident that happens in some people’s lives.
