The Jails mission statement is to maintain the Fulton County Jail, provide services that are needed and directed by the court system, provide support and educational services to the community as a method of preventing and reducing crime, and enforce federal and state law. This jail also has a GED program and a mental health program. The purpose of this
The Georgia Department of Corrections not only utilize its staff and workers in operating its programs but also past and current offenders in instances such as where offenders across the State Lead and Assist with Prison Programs. This program has seen where the Georgia Department of Corrections has recorded nearly 2000 offenders working in education, chaplaincy as well as other areas to aid in character building, reducing recidivism, and improving the general behavior of offenders. Other programs undergrown by the GDC as a part of their scope of activity is vocational programs and on the job training, substance and mental health programs, faith and character based initiative and package programs whereas families and friends of offenders can learn information about
This can be seen in the growing number of court-involved status offenders who were being detained and placed outside of their homes for noncriminal behavior (Shubik & Kendall, 2007). Following multiple studies and research, the President’s Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Justice recommended that the juvenile court be the agency of last resort and that community-based organizations, not penal institutions, should be responsible for these youths (Shubik & Kendall, 2007; Farrington,
Probation services were first established in 1927. Since then, the system has changed tremendously with developing both centralized and decentralized models. Centralized probation is designed to give authority to the state for probation activities using a state wide administrative body whereas the decentralized model uses agencies administrated by a city or county thereby making it more flexible and better able to respond to incidents. In my opinion, I believe that the decentralized model would work best due to the fact that it would be a lot easier with probation being run by local officials who have a better understanding of the needs of the community and who may be better at assisting people on probation with turning their lives around. Centralized probation from my understanding has too many people involved in the court system to adequately monitor them therefore making it easier for the person on probation to repeat criminal behavior.
Decreasing youth delinquency will enable a turnaround in economic development in the community as youth in the city thrive. This dream that will be made into reality will bring further employment opportunities to the city through local business and other avenues. The Holy Bible teaches us to, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” (Holy Bible, 2011) 1 Timothy 4:12 is a reminder to the city of Kankakee that our youth have the power to make a change in their current
Local probation departments can impose their rules quicker and more flexible than larger probation departments such as state and federal departments (Siegel & Bartollas, 2014). However, a larger probation department has more resources in acquiring funds for their objectives than smaller departments (Virlee, 2015). The problem associated with larger probation departments are guidelines that are created and implemented among the probationers are sometimes unrealistic due to the negligence it has with a variety of offenders and the guidelines don't meet the requirements for each
This showed that many individuals plan to recidivate and believe that is almost impossible not to violate their probation conditions. Thursday, I attended Juvenile Hearings. Unlike Superior Court, public defenders who
A commitment staffing took place on June 11, 2015. In attendance were the following: Assistant State Attorney, Carlos Wells; St. Lucie School Official, Michelle Hinder; grandfather, Andy Gamble; youth, Tyresse Charles, Juvenile Probation Officer Supervisor, Pamela R. Cummings; Senior Juvenile Probation Officer, Madeline Miller; Assistant Public Defender, Michelle McMurtry, and Commitment Manager, Steve Basty. The Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) recommends probation with DJJ supervision. The rationale for the recommendation is based on the following: Tyresse has pled to a Third Degree Felony sexual offense for an incident at school.
As a human service professional it is important to get input from other social workers and engage in an open dialog in hopes that others will put in energy to help save the program that offers self-direction and self-esteem building measures to those who utilize the program. Because “human beings act within physical, social, and cultural environments” (Kirst-Ashman, 2011, P. 20), the program can offer a positive output for juvenile offenders. The program can offer coping and diminish stress and stressors due to negative feedback within a juvenile’s social environment. It is important for the probation officer to utilize his resources and collect data to support the positive effects that the program has had. Vocational programs can offer individuals the opportunity to input hard work and get an output of positivity and may even create a niche for the individual.
As a corrections officer at South Regional Ohio Juvenile Detention Center, I honestly don’t know how to answer the questions above. I will give my opinion before I start my research and then I’ll give you my personally opinion after my research. As a corrections officer I think it would be very important to address any mental health problem within a juvenile. Addressing any mental health problems allows facility and juveniles create
The juvenile justice system has made numerous of ethical issues when managing juvenile offenders. The issue with the juvenile justice system is the laws and rules that govern it. It has led to years of controversial debate over the ethical dilemmas of the juvenile corrections system, and how they work with youth offenders. The number of minors entering the juvenile justice system is increasing every month. The reasons why the juvenile justice system faces ethical dilemmas is important and needs to be addressed: (1) a vast proportion of juveniles are being tried and prosecuted as adults; (2) the psychological maturation of the juvenile to fully comprehend the justice system; and (3) the factors that contribute to minorities being adjudicated in the juvenile justice system are more likely than White offenders.

Furthermore, the parole system is known to have a multitude of problems laced within it, these problems can be solved by focusing on parolee and parole officer relationships, and partaking in systems that improve the underlying issues. Following through to fix these affairs may seem unrealistic, but a solution could be in sight. Issues within the parole system in the United States include the ineffectivity of parolees meeting with their supervising
