Abortion Controversy

Abortion is and always will be a controversial topic. It is, by definition “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.” The most frequent argument is the question, is abortion humane after the first two months of pregnancy? There are important factors that should be discussed before answering this question. These factors include Pro- choice ( people for abortion) , Pro-life (people against abortion) and the formation of a fetus in the womb. According to the National Abortion Federation, history of abortion has dated back further than what we know as the Roe v. Wade of 1973 that made abortion legal. “In the 1800’s, abortion was stated to be illegal in fear that there would be an overpopulation of children. There were also a lack of tools and knowledge to complete the procedure safely. Mothers would be critically injured, or pronounced dead during/ after the abortion”. The supreme court of the Roe v. Wade case of 1973 stated “Americans’ right to privacy included the right of a woman to decide whether to have children, and the right of a woman and her doctor to make that decision without state interference” (). …show more content…

These groups of people believe that it is the mothers choice to terminate the pregnancy. They argue that a fetus is not yet a human being so how would it be inhumane to terminate the pregnancy? Human life is as they quote “is a continuum, beginning with the newly conceived zygote, moving through the stages of embryo and fetus on through to adult.. however, if the zygote does not move through the stages of embryo, it is not a human being.”(). Another argument for Pro- Choice is why should a woman give birth to an unwanted child? If a woman does not want a child, she will not care for them properly and the child would not have the life they
