The website Live Action shared “Every day in America, nearly 3,000 preborn children are killed by abortion. The Guttmacher Institute, a former research arm of Planned Parenthood, records that there are an estimated 1.06 million abortions in a year in the United States— one every 30 seconds” (Yeh). Abortion is when a baby is killed. This can happen for many reasons: financial stress, abuse, age, not being educated, simply not wanting children, or numerous other reasons. Emma Green explains neonatologist from Northwestern University, Dr. Colleen Malloy’s thoughts on abortion. “A handful of medical centers in major cities can now perform surgeries on genetically abnormal fetuses while they’re still in the womb. While many pro-choice claim that before a baby is born, they should not be considered human because they couldn’t survive outside the womb and they do not have human characteristics, but at five weeks old, when the baby is the size of a sesame seed, it's heart is beating. “Dr. Alfred M. “The US Supreme Court has declared abortion to be a "fundamental right" guaranteed by the US Constitution” (ProCon). Pro-Choice claims it is the mother’s body and life, it really is not. Yes, the baby is theirs, and it is growing in their uterus, but that baby has a life of it’s own. Several medical professionals say “[a]bortions are sometimes needed to save the lives or health of pregnant women” (Painter). If an abortion is performed to save a woman's life, that is just killing another person. There will still be the same number of people alive. What gives someone the power to decide who lies and who dies? About 5% of women aged 12-15 who are raped will get pregnant. These woman should have the right to have an abortion (Health Research Funding). When a woman has a baby, whether it be from rape or not, the baby is still part of her. The baby will still live in her for nine months and it was still conceived and created by her. No matter what the child’s father did, the baby is still part her as well. She should not punish her own flesh and blood for something their father did, no matter how terrible.
