Early in the book Lee writes about how some of the characters are kinda simple in the things they do on a day to day basis. Scout, is one of
In Robin Wall Kimmerer’s excerpt, “The Gift of Strawberries” from the “Braiding Sweetgrass”, Kimmerer describes her childhood, growing up in a lower-income family and appreciating the time she spent with her family while picking strawberries. When she picked strawberries with her brother, she reminisced about the times she would chase him, run through the fields, maintain the Strawberry plants, and enjoy social time with her brother while making gifts with materials that had value to her. Her definition of a gift is defined by the effort that goes into it, as well as appreciation. In The Gift of Strawberries, Kimmerer states, “I experienced the world in that time as a gift economy, "goods and services" not purchased but received as gifts from
I organized multiple clothing, food, and book drives. While I was a Girl Scout, I earned my Bronze and Silver award: the second and third highest awards a Girl Scout can earn. Some other examples of events that I’ve planned to give back to my community are cheer clinics, movie nights, and 8th grade prom. I also have gift wrapped at the KMCC during the holiday season, tutored students at the Intermediate School, volunteered at the Ramstein Bazaar, picked up trash around the base, and bagged groceries at the commissary multiple times. Taking action in the community is important to me because I like to make positive impacts that benefit the lives of
Over the course of last year’s summer, specifically the month of July I worked as a volunteer camp counselor for the Brooklyn Jesuit Prep(B.J.P) summer camp. This camp was held at Fairfield Prep on the second floor of Berchmans as well as in and around the circle at Loyola Drive on the Fairfield University campus and Loyola Hall. I volunteered for the afternoon sessions of the summer camp, so my experience was vastly different from those who volunteered for the morning sessions and helped tutor and educate the children. Instead, I helped and lead the middle school children in games and other activities which they didn’t have enough counselors or volunteers to do. I played games with them ranging from dodgeball to kickball and rugby, and even
The leadership training day would foster a connection with members of our society and the local children in Athens-Clarke County. It would not only
The project allows the scout to have practice with difficult situations to give the young man experience in life lessons. My community-based project was
I completed the task of organizing an entire spring break trip in Colorado, for our club to build homes for families in need. I was blown away from the help and support that our Lakeland community had given me during each phase of this trip. That support was also exemplified while planning events and activities for the other on-campus organizations I was involved with -- Spanish Club, Badminton Club, Hospitality Club, and the National Spanish Honors Society. Planning these events helped instill the sense of community among the campus.
My experience at California Boy’s State is one that I will carry with me and continue to share to all my fellow classmates. I found out about this opportunity when a counselor called me in and recommended that I apply for a spot to be a delegate for the program. Immediately, I was flattered to be selected from a list of the male population in my grade to be eligible and referred to as a potential candidate. I was not brought up in a supportive home growing up, so the validation of being considered for this opportunity is what inspired me to put everything into being a representative for my school. After my interview with the American Legion members of my local post, I learned that I was selected to solely represent my high school for the summer conference in Sacramento.
The coming of age is the process of growing up or entering adulthood, a stage of life that every living thing goes through from human to fish, although it comes at times that are unexpected and at any age, sometimes it might be fast or it could be a slow process. In the book TKM many characters go through the coming of age from old to young. This essay will be talking about Scout, Boo,and Jem and their journey through the coming of age. The sense I have decided upon is the scene where Scout and Jem are attacked In the forest, On the way home from a the school play. And how literary terms affect the thought of the scene First in the book TKM when Scout and Jem get attacked I believed this played a large role in Scouts coming of age.
During my high school years, I have been able to do a lot more and it feels amazing to help. Some such activities have been joining the
I will also participate in community outreach programs whenever possible because to be a good leader you must show characteristic of
Roadblocks that may prevent some of our students from participating in events with the Boy Scouts would be not being qualified to become a scout volunteer. Also, they would have to set aside the time for meetings service projects and outdoor activities which would include camping trips and hiking over the weekends. During this trip our students may become injured, they may receive cuts, scrapes, and broken bones. Future Vision The future is bright for the Boy Scouts of America and the University as we can get more people involved in an effort to have a positive impact on our youth and also find a way to make youth programs more affordable for all families.
I gave back to my scouting community by taking the place of the older scouts and help lead the troop, guiding the younger scouts on their journeys to Eagle in the same manner as the older scout did with me. I also learned about the importance of volunteer work. I volunteer at the public library, and would help out in the afterschool “Math Lab”, tutoring students struggling with understanding what they were learning in their math classes. To this end, I live by the Boy Scout slogan: “do a good turn
Whether it be through Girl Scouts, Interact EC, or SMYLE, I find that service opportunities are never a chore but something I look forward to doing. Wherever my path may go after Daniel Hand, I can know for certain that I will continue to be a part of leading and serving the communities I am a part of. Induction into the National Honors Society would be a great honor, and I would like the sincerely thank you all for considering
It would enjoy me to be President of National Honor Society and to represent our Society and school throughout the community. I have known many of you throughout my high school years and have discussed projects that can make our school a more enjoyable and friendly place for students. I want to lead our group of 52 upperlevel students through group projects in our area such as Season of Hope for Families. I have been doing research and prepairing how we could go about fundraising and helping out or community. In this fundraiser, we could help by aquiring Board games and Arts and Craft Kits.
