enetically Modified Babies If someone told you it was possible to create the “perfect” baby, would you do it? Well, new advances in technology have made this idea a reality. Although the idea of genetically modifying babies sounds great on the surface, it should not be allowed because it would raise many ethical and social concerns.
One reason I do not support the use of genetic engineering on humans is because people may use it for unethical purposes. Parents could use this technology to create their idea of a “perfect” child. They could choose to have their child’s DNA edited to change the child’s outer appearance. For example, if a parent wants a child with blonde hair and blue eyes, they could use this technology to have those genes altered. This is completely unethical because parents should not be able to control how their child looks. Genetically modifying babies to prevent diseases is a huge scientific advancement, but the technology would get out of control and be used for unethical purposes. …show more content…

There would be tension between those who are genetically modified and those who are not. I think this would lead to the creation of social classes. Genetically modified people would most likely be more intelligent and better looking. Additionally, this scientific process would probably be so expensive that only rich people could afford it. There is already a separation between the rich and the poor into different social classes. If the rich also had the resources to create “perfect” people, there were be an even greater social division because they would be so different from one another. Genetically modifying babies would lead to the genetically modified humans believing they are a superior race over the non-modified
