Designer babies are babies that are designed for “want to be parents”, or parents, where they choose what genes are most desirable for the baby to have a healthy lifestyle. The first baby ever to be designed was designed in 1989 and born in the 1990s. To design a baby it cost a lot of money, it cost about up to $4,000 to $20,000. There are many disagreements on why it is or is not a good idea to “design” our babies. Many are for designer babies because it prevents diseases and future illnesses. Others say it is cruel and harsh for doctors to be working on designer babies. When something goes wrong they, “discard the results when they don’t work out”(Source A). Studies show that it is a 50 to 70 percent possibility that the method would end triumphantly. Many do not know the outcome of what can happen to the child when designing them to be they think is perfect in their eyes. If the procedure is not done right, the embryo may be terminated or something serious can happen to the baby. It is so hard to tell in advance if the procedure is successful, both the doctor and parents will always take a risk. Soon, other diseases will show up, “in preventing one genetic disease, you are likely to cause another genetic disease”(Source A).
