The 45th Presidential Election Throughout the past few months, the 45th presidential election has been in full swing as the news, social media, and various people of all ages and beliefs are speaking out about who they believe the next president, Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, should be. Governor Mike Pence of Indiana, who is 57 years old and grew up on a cornfield in Southern Indiana, has recently accepted to be Donald Trump’s running mate. While speaking to the country at the Republican National Convention, Pence provides comparisons and statistics about Trump and himself, in order to persuade his audience to vote for the Republican candidate. Formerly, Pence was Governor of Indiana, and he describes his successful achievements that have taken place from using his strong conservative ideas. Currently in Indiana, there is a “2 billion surplus, the highest credit rating in the nation... and businesses large and small have created nearly 150,000 new jobs” (Pence 14). America is approximately nineteen trillion dollars in debt, yet Pence has been able to make the state of Indiana have the highest credit rating in the country. Furthermore, creating 150,000 new jobs from businesses is a remarkable achievement that many Americans would like to see implemented throughout the rest of the country. These two accomplishments are due to Republican leadership. Pence is credible because he has been able to successfully increase Indiana’s economy and lower the unemployment rate. He has first-hand experience on solving issues within the economy, and he believes that, as vice president, that he can continue boosting the economy, like he has in Indiana, to the rest of the country. In addition, Pence uses ethos to show that Trump is dependable and would be a virtuous leader. Trump has “faced 16 talented opponents and outlasted every one of them…brought millions of new voters into the Republican Party…and has gone about as far as you can in business “(Pence 17). In the beginning of the election, Trump was seen to many as a joke that would not make it far in the election. However, he has proved credibility by defeating every other candidate running in the election as a Republican, many of whom are experienced and have been in the political world for decades. He has also switched the minds of American citizens by convincing them to join the Republican Party. Furthermore, he has had successful achievements in the business industry.
