To begin with, Anne Frank started her life in hiding at thirteen in the Secret Annex in Amsterdam, Netherlands. In the Book Thief and in the chapter “The Secret Room” in the novel The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom many people risked their lives to help the Jews. Nazi Germany was a very dark and horrific place during the Holocaust. There, Germans had all the power and Jews were treated inhumanely. Many of them could not even show their faces or they would be punished.
Anne Frank was a young Jewish girl living in Amsterdam during the occupation by the Nazis. She was forced to go into hiding above her father's work for two years to avoid prison. During her time in hiding, she kept a diary and wrote about her experience. Frank writes about her loving and compassionate family and also mentions how she has built new relationships with the other families in the house. Anne Frank and her family were in hiding for two years. During those two years, the family lived in an Annex with another family named the Van Daans. Also during these two years she wrote in her diary about her experiences of each day and what her wishes were. Her father Otto Frank and her mother Edith Frank including the Van Daans would try and take care of the family as best as they could. In hiding, they were not able to leave their home as they might get caught.
In the 1900’s the Nazis killed about six million innocent Jews. Anne Frank and her family spent roughly 2 years in a secret annex hiding from the Nazis. The Holocaust was truly scary for several people, but especially those of Jewish origin. The Holocaust managed to kill twelve million people, six million of which were Jewish. The Frank’s couldn 't get out of the due to the Nazi occupation, so they did the next best thing, which was to hide. Otto Frank was the one who helped arrange it, due to his ties with some people in his company. Otto Frank is an example of survival because he was a natural leader, selfless and caring.
The Holocaust has a monumental historical significance. People of all ages have heard of this tragedy and how it affected millions of innocent people’s lives. Over the course of 3 years, 11 million people were unjustly murdered. They were executed, tortured, and taken to camps where they were killed and burned like livestock. Many Jewish people were forced into hiding in a last-ditch effort to stay out of these concentration camps.

Anne Frank, her family, and the Van Daans endured difficult times of hunger, thirst, and lack of privacy cornered by walls for over two years. Anne confided her observations and feelings of the hard times within her diary she named Kitty. By writing in her diary both before and after the war, one could visibly notice how Anne went into the Annexe as a juvenile and came out as a young adult.

The Holocaust was a horrible time especially for the Jews. They were forced to do things that people in this time could not even imagine doing.
Imagine how it feels to be stuck in a tiny, miniscule room for almost two years, not able to make a sound or movement and if heard by someone,death or concentration camp is the destination? The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett is about a small family which consists of Anne, Margot, Mr. Frank, and Mrs. Frank who were in a shock of fear, and went into hiding during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Over the course of the story other characters join the family into hiding such as Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan, and their son Peter. During the time of hiding, Anne kept a diary to write down all her thoughts, fears, and feelings and was later known to be the most important piece of literature from the times of the Holocaust. The story takes you through their everyday lives of hiding in the annex which also includes arguing and times of happiness.
