More than 180,000 people join the military each year, you might think that a lot of people but it’s not. The U.S. military is 241 years old and is bigger than it was when it started but if more people do not start joining it will soon cease to be in existence. The U.S. military has issues with wussification, their budget, tactical training, and regulations.
I believe in marching band. I believe in blood, sweat, and tears. I believe in working hard not only for yourself, but also for the other 90 people on the field with you. I believe that if someone can get through a season without sweating, bleeding, and crying a few times throughout the season, they don’t deserve to call themselves a marching band member. I’ve spent each summer since I was a freshman in high school on the black pavement for 9 hours a day.
Marching Band as a Sport When the average person thinks of sports they think of football, soccer, baseball, hockey, or basketball. Yes those are all great sports, but what about all the others that aren 't considered sports, like marching band? Marching band should be considered a sport for many reasons. They have to be reliable to be at competitions and performances because the rest of the band is counting on them being there, which is similar to future scenarios in job settings where others are counting on them. Marching band is a sport because they do as much as any sport, does as much as any other sports team, and they are not just there to cheer on the football team.
The time is now. The roaring crowd settled, the stadium lights shined above us, the field was set. It was time to show the audience how much dedication, sweat, and tears were put in the show right before the eyes. The masterpiece, I like to call it. Marching band; copious amounts of people scoff at the sound of those words. I often hear students commenting on how easy marching band is, how we don’t train like the football players do. At Anderson High School, that’s not the case, the marching band trains for just as long. As a band of over 125 individuals, it takes determination, pride, and confidence to achieve the goals we have set forth to accomplish. As a leader of the saxophone section, I know what it’s like to face failure, to overcome and turn it into success and to march on with confidence.

I would participate in the university's marching band. I have found a positive environment and happiness in marching band, and I could never see myself quitting. I find that whenever I'm having a bad day, marching band rehearsal always puts a smile on my face. During a football game, or a simple 3 hour practice, I can forget about my outside problems and focus on what I love to do: band.
A year ago, I signed a contract with Hillsborough marching band but I never knew what I was signing up for. The place I feel at ease is marching band practice. This is because the people there are nice. I even won an award for being the most improved rookie. Although it is tiresome I have to constantly spend around 3 hours practicing marching and playing my music every Mondays and Tuesday during summer and fall, the adrenaline rush made me more focused and on task.
Concert 2 is one of the lowest bands in the program. When I first entered the program, I had wanted to quit. However, after a while, I grew to really enjoy band. I started practicing more and put in more effort with what I did. I was first chair in concert 2, which is the principal player.
