Recently there has been a debate on wether the driving age should be lowered from 18 to 16 in Victoria. There are many views on this debate but mine is quite clear. There are 3 main reasons; Pressure and stress levels in students is already high and there is no reason to strain them any more, it creates more risk and it will increase the death toll of people on the roads, and the responsibility can cause people to get over excited and create an even bigger risk
There are reasons why the driving age is set at 18, and reasons why there are hours that you must have in order achieve your licence. In other parts of Australia the rules are different, to have your licence in Darwin you must be over the age of 16 and 6 months and you need to have logged 60 hours. In NSW you get your L’s at 16 and can receive your P’s 12 moths later with 120 hours logged. In QLD it’s the same as

Reducing the age to 16 could potentially create an even bigger risk for accidents on the road, in the younger community and for everyone else. There would also be a high risk in increasing the death tolls on the roads. The death toll for young drivers was 24 in 2014, 14 in 2015 and already 7 in 2016.
Often when big responsibilities are given to younger people they tend to get over excited, this can lead to young drivers drinking and even taking drugs before driving. Again causing more opportunities for accidents to happen and lives to be lost. Just the other day 2 people were killed in a P plater accident. They were supposedly drag racing and drove off a bridge.
There is a lot of pressure on teenagers these days, especially with high school amongst other things. I think that reducing the driving age to 16 will put more pressure on teenagers, more pressure they don’t
