Is nuclear deterrence significant? The answer is yes. Unfortunately nuclear deterrence not become as expected. In recent decades, the American national security policy has led to nuclear deterrence are not working. Originally the purpose, method, logic and effectiveness can be readily understood, but not today. Other than that, as we know the original purpose of nuclear deterrence is for Soviet Union to win the Cold War without having to go through World War III. We can see that used of nuclear deterrence happen in big power state, United States is an example of it. In 2003, United State of America attack Iraq because President George W. The first advantages are, nuclear weapons is an important form of prevention because if a country is at war using nuclear, they will only lose and suffer significant losses to their own state. They will get nothing other than death of their own people and heavy losses. So to prevent this from happen, we need to make a nuclear deterrence so the possibility or having war again will decrease. The second advantages are, although the country is not great but if they got the technology of nuclear power, the country was able to defeat a country with a great power. The second advantages are, low cost insurance against aggression, these mean that the country that use nuclear weapon need to pay a low cost for it. “Nuclear energy is an energy resource that can be an alternative to countries around the world. When the world was facing energy source problem, nuclear energy becomes the focus and consideration of most countries to reduce their dependence on oil and gas”. (Mohamad Faisol Keling, Otto F. Then the disadvantages of the nuclear deterrence are it can be say as an irrelevant and old-fashioned strategy because not all country got the capability to build the nuclear technology and the cost to build nuclear technology is very high, only big country can develop it. Next is not all country can adapt the deterrence strategy. For example when the NTP were signed there are 4 countries that refuse to do so that is India, Israel, Pakistan and South Sudan.
