Why Obamacare should stay implemented “It is unconscionable that Congress might restrict vital health care from the very people they are trying to protect.” David Stacy, Government Affairs Director of the Human Rights.
President Donald Trump continuously makes remarks about Obamacare being bad for our economy but he deliberately neglects to mention the positive benefits of the program. The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, was enacted on March 23, 2010. The purpose of the ACA is to ensure that those who previously would not be able to afford health care are able to sustain a good lifestyle and obtain health care for regular checkups and for emergencies that may occur. ACA has had a tremendous effect on the economy in positive …show more content…

ACA covers a majority of the minority population such as Hispanics and African Americans living in the United States. For many years, African Americans and Hispanics specifically have been unjustifiably uninsured and less likely than whites to receive the health care they need due to their lack of income. Hispanics still have the disadvantage compared to African Americans because they are less likely to obtain insurance than the rest of the ethnic groups since 56% of them are undocumented aliens in the United States. Obamacare helps the minority population by letting children stay on their parent's healthcare plan until the age of 26. By adding the children to the parent's insurance plan, the government, in turn, increased the profits made by insurance companies because the insurance companies receive profit from the premiums obtained by taking in additional healthy people (Amadeo, Kimberly.)

Trump wants to get rid of the act to fulfill his campaign promise to voters. President Trump is suggesting that the government ends federal subsidies that have been available to help Americans purchase insurance coverage through the ACA so the act can be repealed. In an attempt to try and destroy the ACA, President Donald Trump signed an executive order immediately after his inauguration ordering the IRS to not enforce Obamacare’s individual mandate. President Donald Trump is slashing the ACA advertising budget by 90% from 100 million to 10 million.
If Donald Trump were to succeed in repealing the ACA, it would result in a boost in labor supply which would increase GDP by 0.7%, reducing the federal deficit by $216 billion over the 2016-2025 time period. But repealing the taxes that fund the bill would also reduce net revenues by $631 billion in the same time period. The net effect would be a $137 billion increase in the federal deficit from 2016 to 2025. There would an also be about an 18 million fewer individuals with non-group coverage and 14
