The new healthcare bill needed to effectively bridge an otherwise-certain gap between the two parties in Congress, considering that Republican lawmakers desperately needed Democratic cooperation. Unfortunately for Trump and House Republicans, this was not the case. There were several outcries from across the board regarding the fatal flaws presented in the bill, surprisingly many of which came from Republican legislators. Trumpcare was referred to derisively as ‘Obamacare-Lite’ by many conservative parties for its retainment of many of Obamacare’s policies, namely the essential health benefits which Obamacare included. The Freedom Caucus, a fringe of the GOP, lambasted Trumpcare for this reason and withheld their support for favor of a total reform. Others, namely the left of the aisle and the less wealthy, expressed concern that the newfound ruling would likely mean a loss of health insurance for a large chunk of Americans. Further, the process of the bill’s signing was seen as incredibly rushed.
