“We have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it” said Nancy Pelosi. “If you like your current coverage, you can keep it” said president Obama. Obamacare was signed into law March 23, 2010. This new healthcare law was passed to give all Americans insurance coverage, make sure they cannot be denied by insurance companies and make sure all Americans have preventive care benefits like check- ups and immunizations. It is supposed to be the best thing ever and change our country tremendously. Many people think this new law will make our country so much better while others think it will bankrupt our country sooner than later. Obamacare has some really good points. For example, there are about 21 new taxes to cover the cost of Obamacare. Small and large businesses must offer affordable insurance for their employees or they will be penalized. This can cause millions of uninsured employees because some businesses are not going to able to afford the cost of insurance premiums. These people will be required to get insurance through the government if their company is not able to offer coverage. Also, now that everyone has insurance, people will go to the hospital and doctor more. While that is a good thing for some people trying to get a job at a hospital or doctors office, it also drives up healthcare cost. The government will help you pay for your insurance if you can not afford it. People with low incomes will be put on medicaid for insurance. It is estimated that 900,000 Alabamians already rely on Medicaid; Obamacare could increase that number by 500,000. Not only does this mean the Medicaid rolls will be longer, but means all taxpayers will be paying more taxes to pay for everyone to have insurance coverage. Anytime you force people to buy something its going to cause the quality and quantity to go down. There is a doctor shortage as it is, but Obamacare will make a visit to the doctor a bigger ordeal than it is now. Before the law was passed Obama promised that the health insurance for the average family of four was going to decrease by $2,500 but since the law has been passed it has increased by $3,000 so
