Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act which is also known as “ObamaCare” is something that was created by the President Barak Obama in order to improve the health care industry. It was signed into law on March 23, 2010 but was upheld by the Supreme Court on June 28, 2012 (ObamaCare Facts, 2015). The goal of ObamaCare is to give access to more affordable, quality insurance to Americans all while reducing the spending growth of U.S. health care. It makes private and public health insurance more affordable, available and higher in quality. ObamaCare Facts states, it “doesn’t regulate your health care, it only regulates your health insurance” (ObamaCare, 2015).
Open enrollment for 2016 started November 1, 2015 and will end January 31, 2016. Open enrollment is the only time people are able to get the Minimum Essential Health Coverage with actually having to qualify for a special enrollment. ObamaCare has a lot of benefits that most people don’t even know about because people are always quick to talk about the negative before the positive. For example, it allows young adults to be under their parent’s insurance plan until you are the age of 26 and who wouldn’t want to have the responsibility of dealing with insurance until that age?
