Throughout the world, murder is a horrible act of violence and people seek justice. Soon, the death penalty sentence is put into action and it is the final resort for most murderers or serial killers. The death penalty is a common practice in the United Sates today but, what if murderers did not know the act they committed was bad? What if the murderer could not tell right from wrong and saw the act as a simple way to let out aggression? What if the accused murderer was not even a murderer to begin with? The death penalty in the United States needs to be terminated because, criminals could have been wrongfully convicted, they could have suffered from abuse in the early stages in their life, and criminals could possibly be suffering from mental …show more content…

For example,” The second major reason why we should support the death penalty is that we need to enforce the constitution of each state and, at the federal level, enforce the laws of the constitution.” (The death penalty debate: pros vs. cons.) To add, people push for the death penalty because, the majority of people was murderers, serial rapists and killers dead for the heinous, evil acts they purposefully committed. Also, pro-death penalty supporters feel sympathy for the families who lost loved ones and want the criminal sentenced to death for their crime. However, those pro-death penalty supporters might not realize but, the criminal may have suffered abuse, trauma, and mental illnesses that led them to commit their crime. The criminal probably cannot tell right from wrong and may not be able to grasp the full understanding to why they actually committed the crime in the first place. Even if the criminal did commit such an unforgivable act, they may lack the reasoning ability due to mental retardation or a low IQ. In conclusion, not all murders or criminals deserve the death penalty because, they are suffering from mental illnesses, mental retardation, brain damage, or they might have also been falsely
