1. When we give an individual probation, it is to protect the public from mayhem. This sanction helps keep watch of troubled individuals, enforce rules, and guide these individuals. Throughout this process offenders are monitored by visits to the probation office in which they keep track of the delinquents’ activities such as contacting their school or workplace. Also, they do drug testing to keep the individual on the correct track. Finally, the officers help offenders find programs that will benefit their probationers’. 2. Probation is used to suspend prison time where offenders must follow rules set by an individual who is called a probation officer. There are five standard conditions that every individual who is on probation must follow. To begin with, while on probation you are not allowed to be involved in criminal acts. Next, your also not allowed to hang out with people who are deemed criminals by the state. Also, if you drink you’re not allowed to have an excessive amount and are not allowed to use any controlled substance. Then, if you move you must let the probation officer know where your new address is within 72 hours. Finally, if you want to leave the jurisdiction then you must ask and get permission from the courts and your probation officer. 4. Gagnon v. Scarpelli which had extended the Morrissey due process rights. It states that probationers have the rights even if they are limited to counsel. The hearing body must be the one to determine if council may be provided to the offender. 5. Community classifications are usually known as halfway houses. These are programs that help ex-inmates better transition from these prisons to the community. CRCs doesn’t only help the transition but it is also there for supervision, structure, accountability, and programing to aid. If an individual is not meeting the requirements then that is when they are later transitioned to programs like this to gain more accountability, and a place to live.
