Reckless and Selfish: Evils of Texting and Driving

There are a cavalcade of things that people do while driving that can be deemed as idiotic. Some people will throw their trash out of a moving car on the highway. Some will drive way too slow in the fast lane. Many people will also decide to not use their turn signals. But the most aggravating driving flaw is when drivers make the decision to take their eyes off the road to look down at their cell phones to read, type out a message or check social media. I believe that texting and driving is insanely idiotic; hands down the dumbest thing you can do while driving.

People may not think that looking at your phone is the worst thing you can do while driving. The most used argument against it would most likely be drinking and driving being the worst. Being physically and mentally impaired while driving is very dangerous and has led to many accidents. A lot of people will not see using a cell phone behind the wheel as a big problem, and that is what aggravates me. The …show more content…

My buddy, that is riding in front of me, signals that there is a driver swerving in front of us and he moves ahead to get a look at the diver. I can see him pointing and, I assume yelling as well, at the driver. He backs off while signaling to us that the driver is texting while driving. I start to speed up and right as I get to the rear wheel on the right sign, the driver gets into my lane without a turn signal and almost hits me. Angry, I get next to the car and look over and still see the driver on the phone, not paying attention to the road. I signal to my buddies that we are going to take the next lane. I take one hand off of the throttle and punch out the driver’s side mirror and speed pass it and take the next exit. Despite not being the bigger man in the situation, I am satisfied with my decision, hoping that the driver learned their
