Less than 1% of Canada's population is made up of immigrants each year, however, the impact of immigration is quite large. Although Canada has only a small amount of immigrants coming each year, they still need to be protected, which is why Canada has created the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. This act was passed in 2001, and came into action in 2002. The IRPA was put in place to pursue social cultural and economical benefits for all canadians, reunite families, promote successful integration and, to represent the multicultural and bilingual character of Canada. There are also quite a few benefits to this section, it Increases diversity as well as Bilingualism, it supports french language communities and it protects refugees as well as offers a safe haven, and reunites families. Again there are a few negatives to this. Some of the downfalls to this are, poor cultural views and being brought up that way. Lastly, health and security factors. This ensures immigrants can not be bankrupt, must be healthy and can not threaten the security of Canada. However this means it’s possible to have a contagious diseases, a mental or physical problem that needs to me treated and paid for or, last, a safety risk. Typically immigrants will come to fill job positions in Canada that Canadians aren't capable to. In 2011 to 2016 a study showed the amount of Canadians entering the workforce is equivalent to the amount of canadians retiring. This is also why younger immigrants are beneficial to Canada workforce, they can help support the aging workforce, this also helps the economy by having more taxpayers for longer periods of time. Labour force growth is also a positive outcome of immigration, this means we have more productive society. They predict in 2025-2030 the number of deaths will equal the number of births. If that is true they the amount of people will not increase, which is a downfall but by having immigrants come to Canada and join the workforce this is not as big of an issue. There are also a few a few pitfalls to this. For example, the unemployment rate was 5.9% in november, 2017, so there is still a large portion of Canadians who are trying to find a job. Bringing in immigrants, specifically ones who are coming to work, which is anywhere from 50%-60%, can make it much harder for Canadians to land jobs themselves. In addition to this, Aboriginal people are not to pleased with immigration for the reason that there is now more job competition; having their resource conditions improve first is a priority.
