The year of 1990 was when year round school was proposed. Now, over 2 million kids attend year round school. Year round school is a way for students to have vacation more frequently. Most year round school systems have what is called a 45-15 schedule. A 45-15 schedule is when kids attend school for forty five days and then get 15 days of vacation, However, not all year round schools use a 45-15 schedule. Many other schools have it where they have kids going to school for only three weeks and then they get a breaks. Kids still go to school for one hundred eighty days (Give or take based on snow days) and they learn the same curriculum. This makes it hard for parents to find childcare that can work on those strange time chunks. Parents need to find a reliable child care to watch their kids when they are at work. The website Care.com explains how stressful this can be on kids parents. It says that parents have a rough time scheduling family vacations and child care when they attend year round school. Many local businesses and churches are having to reconfigure their calendars so that activities work out (Nair). Kids school schedules are often different than their parents work schedules or a church schedule if they attend year round school. Even though the kids get more time off, that doesn't mean that they get to spend more time with their parents. Also, parents need to find an affordable and dependable person to watch their kids. Because the breaks are so different for year round school, dependable and affordable care is very hard to find. Care.com also says that parents have an extremely difficult time trying to find Nannies or babysitters to look after children who attend year round school because they have a lot of odd breaks (Kalil). All in all, this suggests that parents have a very difficult time when they schedule childcare. Parents need to find a business that can take care of their children and they need to find someone who can take care of them with those strange hours. In addition, parents may have a difficult time scheduling places for vacation because their kids have more frequent breaks at strange times. Pamplin Year round school did a study that figured out how many people attending year round school go on vacation during school breaks, and how many go during summer vacation. “Their study found that ‘85 percent of respondents said they took their major family vacation in the summer before year-round school, whereas only 40 percent said they did so after year-round school’” (McCleary).
