Dear Jury Members: Mr. Bennett should be found guilty because, Mr. Adam’s cause of death was rat poisoning, and Mr. Bennett was the only person at the party with rat poison on his hands. Next, Mr. Bennett had a motive to kill Mr. Adams and had been poisoned with rat poison. Finally, Mr. Bennett would have to sell his beloved home, which had been in his family for generations, so he was desperate to kill. The first piece of evidence against Mr. Bennett had a motive to kill Mr. Adams because he owed him $250,000 and didn’t have the money to pay him back. A strong piece of evidence against Mr. Bennett is that Mr. Bennett was a colleague of Mr. Adam’s and worked on many business deals with him. He still owed Mr. Adam’s $250,000 for one of these deals. The cup contains rat poison residue. All the people present at the party were tested. Traces of the rat poison were found only in Mr. Bennett’s hands. Mr. Adams did not have any evidence of rat poison on his hands. The last piece of evidence against Mr. Bennett is that Mr. Bennett would have to sell his beloved home, which had been in his family for five generations, so he was desperate. Mrs. Swanson testified that Mr. Adams had started putting pressure on Mr. Bennett to pay back the $250,000 owed.
