I have always wanted to major in marketing, and by going to Real Talk I would be able to gain more knowledge about marketing in general. As a first year that is inexperienced in networking, my goal was to network with at least three business professionals. I will be more confident while approaching any of the professionals for the whole night and hopefully be able to build positive connections. Initially one of my goals was to research in details about the delegates that were coming to the Gateways. However, I wasn’t able to do since UBCMA only released the delegate list a few hours before the event. As one of the managing founders of Convertus, his firm that assists the local automobile branch with dealerships through digital marketing. He inspired me so much with his passion for marketing. He was telling me to not be afraid to reach out to the companies that I am interested in. Most companies, including his, would be glad to offer students (especially to those from Sauder) the opportunities to work for free for a week. Through working in the actual setting, you will be able to know whether or not you like the position or the company culture and values. He said that marketing is split into little branches; the earlier you decide which one you want to climb on the better. In that way, not only you would be able to save time but also you would be able to do what you love in an early stage. He said that marketing tends to be more laidback than other majors; companies tend to value employees that are creative and passionate. Thus he stresses on the importance of personal branding, and I should continuously be adding values to myself, so that I could be easily recognized.
