There was the child saving efforts that happened in the United States in the 1800’s that has helped to evolve the system of child welfare (Mizrahi & Davis, 2008). The first government department that focused on the safety of children was created in 1912, the children’s bureau still remains in today’s child welfare system (Mizrahi & Davis, 2008, p. 279). Based on the practice update from 2010 social workers in the child welfare field use strength based theory to help youth aging out of foster care. One point that was in the practice update is that the social worker is able to see strengths of the child and help them to see those strengths to set goals for their future (Torrico, 2010).
It is important in practice as child and youth workers to try and understand everyone we are working with, this can be done by taking this approach.
Returning to college as an adult learner is a difficult decision at best. Consequently, it is somewhat like deciding to have a child. Criticism on Social Learning Theory Introduction Social learning theory is a theory related to classical and operant conditioning, which proposed by Albert Bandura in 1977. According to Albert Bandura, people are active agents in learning while they use cognition and social interaction in learning (Rogers, 2010). Albert Bandura considered that people are living in the environment, therefore, human behavior should be studied in social context rather than in laboratory (Bandura, 1977).
This is as to how the social worker and the population interact. It involves the people making sense in their interaction. This theory enables the social worker to study the behaviour of the people he or she is involved with. This is demostrated on her role as a consellor and educator.
Bandura does not put forth stages or time limits on development. He believes that observational learning (imitation, modeling) is key to understanding our development. A young child may observe his parent kindly talking to someone or violently yelling at someone and this will shape how the child conducts his own life. Bandura’s model of learning and development includes 3 elements: behavior, the person/cognition, and the environment. Bandura believes that these three work reciprocally, interactively, not one-way.
