Introduction

This reflective paper will critically evaluate my leadership abilities based on the application of trait and situational theory on my current job as a leading stewardess of Singapore Airlines. There are 3 parts that will be covered in this paper including introduction, my leadership capability and the future developmental plans for improving my leadership skills.

Leadership is defined as activities to influence followers to strive willingly towards group objectives (Hersey and Blanchard, 1988). A leader must be able to effectively exert social influence in order to translate vision to reality.

As a leader, being delegating allows my followers to build up confidence, increase loyalty and improve motivation towards work (Sally Foley Lewis, 2017).

My Weakness
The disadvantages of being a task oriented leader including there is only one way communication from leader towards followers, which may lead to low morale (Basu, 2017). The junior crew may feel that I was like an instructor to her, correcting her mistakes all the time, and I did not have faith and trust on her ability. As a result, she lost confidence and motivation, her development level was D2 which is low competence and commitment.

I put too much trust on the senior crew, letting them get the work done without any monitor and instruction, resulting in them disrupting the workplace harmony by being too controlling of the junior crew.
