Reflection On My Writing

Coming in to this semester I felt ashamed of my writing, I was afraid to even turn it in and show my teacher, let alone other students. Now, after this class and the work I have put into improving my skills, I feel extremely confident in my writing and have found an interest that I never knew I had. I know don’t dread writing. When I start an essay, I am excited, I enjoy writing and like bringing it to others in order to receive feedback, so I can make it better. The main focus of my writing this semester has been, improving conventions and sentence structure, as they have been the biggest area of concern in each of the essay’s I have written. The ARC has been a huge tool for the improvement that has occurred in my writing, and I wouldn’t be where I am at today without it.
Dating even back to high school, my strengths have always been the content of my writing. I am good at introducing my subject and using passion in my writing to appeal to the pathos of my audience, but, when it comes to conventions and sentence structure I start struggle. Whether it is a research essay or a commentary piece, the points driven in my writing, are always strong and well conveyed. Conventions have always been a problem for me, whether it is spelling, mechanics, or grammar. My proofreading skills are subpar, and because of that my writing suffers tremendously. The ideas, however, are there, yet my writing still loses strength, as well as credibility because of the many mental errors. To fix this, I have worked hard during this semester, going to multiple ARC appointments, getting advice from other students, and spending hours proofreading my work.
