As an incoming Junior, I was able to join a lab of graduate students who were researching brain development in drosophila after mutating its DNA sequence. Right away I was enthralled. I loved the endless possibilities that came with experimentation, even when though our results were inconclusive. My experience in the program also taught me to think independently as I was separated from my peers.
Reflective Analytical Account. The aim of the lecture was to explore the role of Compassion within SCPHN practice. Throughout the session we followed and discussed the Francis Report, the Compassion In Practice (6C’s) strategy and the 2016 nursing strategy.
As I was sitting in a microbiology lecture one day, the topic of central dogma and genetic sequencing came up, and I felt excited that I not only had some previous knowledge, but had firsthand seen how those topics can be used in research. I feel that my experience in the lab is preparing me for the science heavy semesters that lay ahead, as well as showing me what science looks like outside of the
I came into my first college writing class feeling prepared thanks to you and your investment in me as a student in your AP Lang class. I developed as a writer more than I ever had in your class, and it definitely helped me in my college writing class this semester. I already knew how important it was to revise and continuously critically think about my writing, as well as the importance of multiple drafts and peer review. My English 110 class this semester was very similar to yours because we also did multiple drafts where I could revise my paper as many times as needed. The big difference was that the focus was on different genres and how to appeal to those, which was something new compared to my high school English courses.
The flow of ions and interaction of compounds all makeup everyday life. Whether it is enzyme production to regulate the body or the rotation of polarized light to determine if the drug becomes a morning sickness cure or the cause of deformities, everything can be broken into smaller components. Understanding these mechanisms and how to perform synthesis are what orientated me towards the path of pharmacology. Towards the end of my senior year, I was awarded a scholarship to Everett community college.
My eyes automatically drifted to the tall bright palm tree that moved along with the rhythm of the wind. It’s leafs danced as they presented their welcome. The sun shined down and hugged me with warmth, giving my skin a tingling, but satisfying sensation. I had come from Virginia to California, the famous, constantly spoken of state, that finally reached my sight. The state presented its beautiful attributes to capture my wonder and mesmerization.
I am currently on a Foundation Diploma at the Basingstoke College of Technology where I have enjoyed exploring a range of subjects such as 3D design, fine art, photography and graphic design. My initial intent of studying on the foundation course was to gain an insight into what path I would like to follow but instead I found I was more drawn to the course because it offered me a greater sense of freedom and a way to express my individuality. So far the foundation has enabled me to experiment with different types of media, and has also helped developed my creative thinking. The initial development I found was the importance of the creative process and how gathering primary and secondary research can be so vital. Through my first project I found this approach to research was particularly apparent, it broke certain restrictions and helped me create a coherent outcome.
One of the most compelling aspects that I encountered during my admissions process to BU was the profound and intellectually stimulating environment on campus, sustained through deep and meaningful explorations of fundamental human principles. In conjunction with the disciplines I intend to study, I believe that Core will adequately equip me with the resources and skills necessary to become a well-rounded and contributing member within my academic and professional communities. Due to the comprehensive nature of the Core curriculum and its emphasis on classical texts and the natural and social sciences, I believe that Core will allow me to pursue my passion for literature and philosophy, while simultaneously enriching my understanding of the
Through studying Biology I have learned a countless deal about why the human body develops illnesses and diseases, and the mechanisms used by the body to try and fight these diseases away. Biochemistry has become an interest to mine, and the understanding of it has been reinforced by studying A- level Chemistry and Biology. Chemistry has always been a subject that I have thoroughly enjoyed at school, and have always look forward to being able to apply the knowledge I have already gained in these subjects so that I can further develop an in depth understanding of science as a whole. I have always enjoyed learning new things and try to develop my knowledge as much as possible. In my case, this would allow me to follow a profession with a robust scientific aspect to the work, as I have always been interested in the fields of Biology and Chemistry, with the duty to help people on a day-to-day basis.
When my friends hear how many community service hours I have, they think I’m getting paid, but I’m not. Many think I give back to my community because it is mandatory by the school. To me, it is a way of giving back. I like making people feel as though they matter, and it gives me a good feeling at the end of the day because I feel I have made a better community. Especially because I love the game of basketball it has always been my favorite sport growing up I played it during my youth days, as I was getting older I realize every sport is not for everyone.
Mid-Semester Reflection Aron Miller PADR-0021-017 Dr. Montecillo Upon my completion of the FOCUS assessment, I found that results were what I expected them to be. This is mostly because I am now a senior and therefore should and do know what’s expected of me. I will not be changing my major or my minor because I believe anthropology and sociology will give me the best résumé for law school and maybe even future jobs. After I receive my degree from Texas Tech, I plan to apply for law school in the greater Houston or Dallas areas.
Nationwide, the summer is the time when temporary students come into the laboratory. During my sophomore summer, my Ph.D. mentor put me in charge of 3 summer students. Although excited, I quickly came to find that the students ignored any guidance from me, and soon enough experiments were going awry consistently. The truth was that even though I was in charge of training the students, I needed us to be able to work together to successfully get some of the larger experiments done. I ultimately realized that I needed to be able to make the students see that none of us individually could get all the work done.
1) A synthesis is something that draws conclusions from, makes observations on, or shows connections between two or more sources. The purpose of writing a synthesis varies depending on what type of paper you are writing. A synthesis is usually used for an argumentative or explanatory paper. A synthesis is important because synthesizing gives you the ability to write a paper while compiling or contrasting various sources that support your claims.
My senior year, my AP biology teacher recommended me for an internship with WISE (women in science and engineering). I was the only student from my school to be accepted and I was placed in the chemical and biomolecular engineering department at Johns Hopkins. I worked with a PhD student with the ultimate goal of creating signals that indicated cells specific behaviors depending on their location by developing patterns with DNA. To do this, I tested different reactions in a spectrofluorometer to measure the fluorescence emitted by each sample. This hands-on experience fascinated me and helped me realize that I am truly passionate about laboratory
Synthesis is the ability to integrate different elements or concepts in order to form a sound pattern or structure so a new meaning can be established… The student can demonstrate and convey new ideas. Words used include demonstrate, formulate or modify. Examples:
