i. The two employability skills that I have rated myself less strongly against in Table 2.3 (worksheet 2.3) are; leadership, and numeracy. These attributes are particularly important in relation to my role, and my career development for a number of reasons.
I work as a principal support and business analyst where I am responsible for leading and managing a team of six analysts. Therefore, leadership skills, such as the ability to motivate others, and the confidence to accept responsibility, are essential in order to guide and support the WRIS service. Numeracy is also relevant and very important to NWIS and my role. I work with software developers on a daily basis and I will soon be responsible for calculating effort estimates and timeframes for when development work will be tested and rolled out. iii. Leadership is very relevant to my role, as I am required to lead and support the team, as well as manage and implement changes to the WRIS application. As previously mentioned, numeracy is particularly relevant to my role as I am required to configure, algorithms and formula’s within the WRIS application. iv. In order to further my personal development I plan to complete a PDP (Personal Development Plan). As the OU (2018) Suggests, a PDP can strengthen the capacity of learners to reflect upon their own learning and achievement, and plan for career development. By completing my PDP, I will be able to identify gaps in my knowledge, skills and experience. I would particularly like to develop my ability to handle opposition better in future, so this is something I plan to practice; a competency that Carnall (1999) refers to in the achieving action element. Once I have determined any gaps in my knowledge, skills and experience, I will be able set goals and create action plans, which will help me achieve these
