Every year in the United States, there are 1.1 million abortions. This means that one in four pregnancies end in abortion, that’s twenty-five percent! The Republican Party, who is often referred to as the Grand Old Party, Republicans oppose the funding for abortion, but they promote adoption and abstinence. Republicans support the to improve the foster care system, as well as increasing funding for family services. Republicans focus on four main topics that have been fought over about abortion, they are: an unborn child has an individual right to life, endorsing a human life constitutional amendment, calling for judges who respect human life, and new laws that state a fetus is a human being under the fourteenth amendment. The Federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act was put in place in 2004, this law was created to protect unborn children from assault and murder. At least 38 states have passed either this law or similar ones against fetal homicide. “Anybody intentionally killing or attempting to kill an unborn child should be punished for intentionally killing or attempting to abort73.com kill a human being. The act also states that an unborn child is a member of the species homo sapiens." (abortion.procon.org). This quote means from intentionally killing or attempting to kill anyone including an unborn child there should be punishment. The definition of murder is a willful killing, in which someone makes a conscious choice to kill someone else. The definition of abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy. The two definitions are almost identical. So, why do others think that abortion is not murder?
