During the 13th to the 17th century, it was the start of new inventions, paintings, and other artwork. This time period is known as the renaissance; which took place in Italy. Italian cities, like Genoa and Venice, became very wealthy. This was mainly caused by their trading with other cities. In Italy, there were some cities that were ruled by feudal lords. This helped the growth of economies, political structure, and culture in their city. Paintings from the renaissance were used to reveal or make people acknowledge the significance of people and nature. One of the most famous artists that we know of today, is Leonardo da Vinci. One of the paintings was the Mona Lisa, which was made in Florence, Italy. The Mona Lisa is a portrait of a lady who has an indistinct smile, which were made with oil paints on a wooden canvas. Leonardo first started to paint this portrait around the year 1503, and finished it around the year 1506. Leonardo decided to drift from the way people usually paint women in Italy with this painting. The famous Mona Lisa has impacted our lives deeply because of it’s unique style.
