In reality, what is the purpose of an organization having a Misson statement? Additionally, why is it essential that employees understand, implement, and abide by the company’s Mission statement. Angelica (2001), Calder (2002), and Humphries (2005) defined mission as "what we, as an organization, are all about," "why we exist," and "what we do." Mission statements give leaders a goal and central theme by which they could plan and organize their everyday practice (Fayda & Yoshida, 2014, p339). Matrix has been a pioneer in the drilling industry. We are quick to roll up our sleeves and jump in the trenches to better understand the challenges you face in the field (Matrixdrillingproducts, n.d.). One’s point of view the mission statement needs improvement as there is potential enterprise risk associated with the mission statement of the firm. Now take a look at the mission statement from a past employer. Smithfield foods mission statement reads; Our Mission: We are passionate about producing good food the right way. Our business depends on the humane treatment of animals, stewardship of the environment, producing safe and high-quality food, the vitality of local communities, and creating a fair, ethical, and rewarding work environment for our people (Smithfieldfood.n.d.). There is no doubt there is a significant difference between the two mission statements of both organizations. Smithfield has identified their potential risk, producing quality food means complying with all animal warfare laws, environment, and people. On the other hand, Matrix Drilling Products has not stated how they go about manufacturing their product. They do not let the customer know what measurements they take in building a drill pipe. What rules or protocols they follow in making the drill pipe. What environmental things are they doing to ensure they comply with state and federal laws about mining.
