Rhetorical Skills Reflection

When coming into the class at the beginning I expected it to be an easy A course because I was expecting to only do speeches, but I was completely wrong. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the class involved more than just giving speeches all the time. This class actually made me think in more than one frame of mind and taught me to analyze current and past culture. I had to change my thinking process in order correctly learn and develop my rhetorical skills. My rhetorical skills have developed tremendously over the course of this semester. When it comes to thinking critically I have learned to not to think as things in one way; I have learned that in order to get a better understanding of various topics I must think of things from multiple viewpoints to obtain an overall clearer understanding. In the area of reading, my ability to critically read and analyze what I am reading has increased tremendously. I have learned that in order to critically read and analyze texts better I need to ask more questions about what I'm reading and once I get those answered I have a greater understanding of why the author wrote what they wrote. My ability to write critically has increased because I have learned to get straight to the point when I am writing, and not to add in unneeded information purely for the extra length it adds. I have learned to add length to my writing by adding relevant information that has evidence to back it up. The area that I learned the greatest amount of information in is speaking. I learned that speaking is not based purely on what you are saying, but how you convey yourself while saying it. You need to have a presence that makes people want to listen to you. In all of these areas one thing is very important and that is the audience. Everything you do whether it be writing or speaking you must know who your audience is in order to create an effective
