Rhetorical Analysis Of My Writing Class

My progress: At the beginning of this course, my average grade level was 9.5. Now it is at a college graduate-level.

I contribute that improvement to understanding that my past colloquial style of writing was far from academic writing.

When analyzing writing styles from reading different articles, I can recognize how writers used a more sophisticated formal style of writing. Such as using many polysyllabic words and keeping the subject matter objective, using variations of tones to sound either euphonious or cacophonous. Also, using a long sentence structure that contains very detailed information and facts. Because of this course, I learned how to do this as well.

Learning how to write a rhetorical analysis pulled me closer into the author’s argument. Doing so improved and developed my critical active reading skills in order to understand academic writing better. Because of this course, now I currently practice active reading, on everything I read, and especially complicated written material.

My greatest challenge in this course was the interview. There is a lot of work involved when trying to write an interview that reflects the correct interpretation. Transcribing the interview was extremely time consuming, but at the same time, transcribing tuned me in to what was actually said. However, I learned some valuable lessons from doing so. During the interview, I wrote down several quotes from the interviewee that I planned to include in my paper. Face to face interviewing gave me a deeper understanding and meaning of the quoted words and statements.

Regarding scholarship, I realize that the journey toward scholarship is possible since taking this course. It takes work to become a scholar, however in the meantime I will continue to explore different writing styles and improving my academic
