The advances of the Romans in art, learning, law, and many other political and cultural achievements have helped to shape the way of life of people all over the world. While most of these achievements were based off of what the Greeks had already accomplished, the ancient Romans have greatly improved and developed these inventions in many ways while still adding their own style. These achievements and inventions have impacted my life as well as people all over the world because of the Roman Empire. They have not only made inventions and structures, such as the Pantheon and arches, but also have cultural achievements that were also important in the success of the Roman Empire. The Romans did not know a lot about certain topics like science, medicine, and math, but they applied what they already knew from the Greeks and excelled in engineering. They helped doctors with caring for the health of the public. Galen, a Roman surgeon, explained many symptoms and treatments for many diseases. He wrote a medical textbook that was used for more than a thousand years. The Romans built sturdy roads, harbors, bridges, and aqueducts. The aqueducts that the Romans developed were used to transport water into the cities. They were built on hills so that the water could be carried for miles into the cities. Greece had an influence on Roman philosophy. Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle were Greek philosophers. They were very influential to the Romans, and because of them, the Romans started getting interested in philosophy. Lucretius, one early Roman philosopher interpreted Epicurean philosophy, and wrote a poem called On the Nature of Things. Another important Roman philosopher was Cicero. He thought that people should question ideas, instead of believing everything, so he was considered a Skeptic. This way of thinking helped encourage people to make better and more logical
