One of the well-liked contemporary remakes of the original is Gnomeo and Juliet. A more contemporary and suburban setting has been established by Gnomeo and Juliet. While the original Romeo and Juliet play was located in an Italian city, the location for the movie is a neighborhood and two backyard gardens that contain gnome cities. How the characters respond to their surroundings has undergone one of the biggest modifications. Examples are Tybalt and Mercutio's deaths. The deaths are handled in a way that highlights how frail not only their bodies are, but also the environment. The movie uses the setting by using the wall as the weapon that killed Tybalt: “You don’t think I'm going to fall for that old trick, do you? What wall?...Oh,that wall” (Gnomeo and Juliet). This shows the audience just how fragile gnomes are just like people. For the characters to experience the same circumstances as the characters, the setting offers a different scenario. Tybalt exclaims, "If it isn't little big hate benny. Mess with our garden, will you?” (Gnomeo and Juliet). Benny's blue hat being crushed indicates Mercutio/Benny's death; Tybalt uses a shovel to crush it.
