In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, in my opinion, their decisions and the consequences of each of their actions determine their death. Personally, I think fate did not determine how they died, I think their actions and decisions brought them to death. For example, in the prologue it states that Romeo and Juliet are “star-crossed lovers” which means they could never be together because it would be impossible. I feel like the tragedy of their deaths showed how they were not meant to die together romantically. The decisions that they made guided them to their consequences, which then led them to their tragic deaths. Both households are threatened with death by Prince Escalus if they continue to fight. Romeo’s sadness was caused by “unrequited love” and, in my opinion, he acted very desperate for love. He was so in love with Rosaline that it was all he would think and worry about. His love for Rosaline made him miserable because he did not think she loved him the same way he loved her. In Act 1 Scene 2, Benevolio tells Romeo to go to the Capulet party to try and search for another girl. Benvolio suggests this so Romeo can take his mind off Rosaline and he can compare her to the other women at the party. Benvolio states “Go thither; and with unattainted eyes compare her face with some that I shall show..”. If Romeo had never attended the party of the Capulets, he would have never met Juliet the way he did. If he had not gone to the party, he and Juliet would have most likely not fallen in love. He would have remained in love with Rosaline. Juliet’s parents, Capulet and Lady Capulet, want her to marry Paris.
