Humans always wonder if the decisions that brought them to the point where they are today is by fate. Does every choice people make is through their own free will or has fate made the choices for them? And finally are humans aware of the choices they make? In the play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the author leaves one of the most thought provoking question for the audience to resolute which is whether Romeo and Juliet’s tragic demise was on account of fate or free will. Shakespeare leaves many evidence of both fate and free will choices that the “star crossed” lovers have overcame through their three day adventures through romance. Sometimes they appear at each others windows or always appear to hold hands. With Romeo and Juliet they find creative ways to establish that that the world cannot keep the two apart. For instance, after the party Romeo’s eager to be with Juliet forced him to see her at her balcony and declares “[he’d] rather be killed than have to live a life without [her] love”(2.2.76-77). This exemplifies that there is clear demonstration of Romeo and Juliet choosing to be with each other because of their own choices rather than the act of free will. As well this proves the drastics measures they take now can lead to their deaths in the end for their difference in family and status. Another instance is when Juliet secretly tells Romeo she will “have a husband waiting at the altar and [she] being the wife”(2.5.62). This example points the fact out that Romeo and Juliet will always be together for their choices that must go against what families and closed ones have told them not to do. As well to prove their love is real, the couple decided to marry one another and free willingly choose their deaths. As well to their romantic actions to be with each other, Romeo and Juliet as well have people that have affected their
