Interesting title here “Let me be ta’en. Let me be put to death” (Shakespeare 187). Does love at first sight exist? This question is often discussed throughout literature, and William Shakespeare covers it in his play Romeo and Juliet. In this play, the two title characters fall in love quickly and end up dying. Shakespeare proves throughout this play that love at first sight is real, can make people do crazy things, and is complicated. No matter who it is or the situation is, these things are true for everybody, even two fictional characters from the fourteenth century. First, Shakespeare understands that love makes people do crazy things. He writes, “Yea, noise? Then I'll be brief. O happy dagger, This is thy sheath. There rust and let me die” (Shakespeare 274). James Kuzner, the author of the article “Should we scoff at the idea of love at first sight?” writes, “To its detractors, love at first sight must be an illusion – the wrong term for what is simply infatuation, or a way to sugarcoat lust. Buy into it, they say, and you’re a fool” (1). This quote proposes the idea that those who think they have fallen in love are simply crushing on someone.
