Andrew Hoang Mr. Mezin English 1P 24 March 2023 The Intangible Feeling of Love Love is such an influential feeling, yet there is no way to grasp the experiences it provides. William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet shows great examples of love. Characters in this play, such as Romeo, provide a unique experience of love, which has significantly affected his life. In the play, Romeo believes that he is in true love, first with Rosaline and then he completely falls in love with Juliet. Unlike Rosaline, Juliet loved Romeo back; however, their families hated one another, indicating that they were unlikely to accept their relationship. Love was the cause that drove many of their thoughtless actions, which resulted in six deaths and many other troubles. One unsuccessful experience with love is shown by Romeo when he exclaimed “Tut! I have lost myself; I am not here” (1.1.192). The quote shows the reader how lost and upset he feels when he rejected by his love, Rosaline, who did not love him back. The other thought Romeo meant was that he does not want to do anything else, saying that he does not feel like he truly should exist. In this instance love causes Romeo to lose himself, from being able to think, and it also makes him not care about his existence; this shows how love is not an experience that Romeo was able to grasp or comprehend, since he is stuck feeling lovesick, within his mind, and he no longer has someone he loves. When love has the ability to cause someone to lose themselves, it can be confirmed that love is not something that can be encountered and
