Was Romeo and Juliet true love or lust? In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the play conveys the idea that love is stronger than anything. Throughout the play, love is shown to many different people in many different ways. Their love is forbidden due to a long term family feud between the Capulets and the Montagues, Romeo and Juliet's families. There's really only two ways to look at Romeo and Juliet's love, it was real love or they were just teenagers looking for a partner. In the first half of the play, Romeo and Juliet's love resembles lust more than true love. Love is having an intense feeling of affection towards somebody that you're willing to do anything for. This quote shows that Romeo thought that she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, and that was enough to marry her. While all of this was happening, the rivalry between the families was still going on. Both the rivalry and Romeo and Juliet's love were extremely powerful, and would eventually lead the teens and families to disaster. As the play progresses, Romeo and Juliet begin to show what their relationship could do. Throughout their love story, there are many challenges that they have to face and overcome together. Although Romeo and Juliet were able to overcome most of their obstacles, there was only one that they weren't able to, which led them and several others to their sudden death. Juliet says, "But my true love is grown to such excess I cannot sum up half my wealth" (Shakespeare II VI). 33-34).
