Japan’s samurai and Europe’s knights were both fierce warriors for their time. They were both considered nobility even though they were ranked just above peasants. Knights came first by roughly 130 years. They both served lords or daimyo for payment. Being a knight and a samurai when both very common during these times, for sometimes it was hereditary and it was an honor to be a knight or samurai. However, to have honor, they both had to follow two different rules. One of these rules was called chivalry while the other was Bushido. They were both shown the same amount of respect. From one of the documents, the social pyramids are alike by showing the warriors in the same spot of social ranking. Although they may have had a low ranking, they were still highly respected. Samurai and knights received some type of payment for their loyalty to the lord. They often received land and food to support the warriors families. Bonds between daimyo and samurai, lords and knights were very strong, for if the knight had a son, the son would grow up to be a knight. They were both considered to serve their lord even after death. Knights and samurai were well equipped for battle. Knights wore full suits of armor and usually use a bow or crossbow in a battle. The samurai’s armor also helped the person inside, because the armor pieces were plates of metal with strands of string holding it together. This made dodges and rolls easier for when they came into a sword fight. Knights and samurai started training at young ages. Samurai would start at the age of four; they would learn how to fight, and how to follow the rules of zen Buddhism and Bushido. Knights would start at the age five or six.
