Abortion is a topic that has been discussed many times over the years. Some people think that abortion is a crime while others find it absolutely normal. The dictionary definition of abortion is “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” From an ethical point of view many ask; should abortion be legalized? In my opinion, yes I think abortion should be legalized everywhere around the world. The following reasons are the basis of why I think so. Last of all, the parents may not be able to have a baby at the time because they are not capable of providing a good life for him/her.
First of all, I think that every woman, no matter where she is, should be granted the choice of having an abortion or not. When a woman becomes pregnant, she goes through many severe physical and emotional changes. The physical changes include, increased respiratory system, increased cardiac output and blood volume, increased reflux, and heartburn . Moreover, their breasts become larger, their hands and feet swell up, the texture of their hair and nails change and they get leg cramps1 . These are not the only change a women goes through there are numerous hormonal changes that readjust the entire body system, and there are also the physical changes. These changes include extreme exhaustion and morning sickness, anxiety, sometimes joyful and sometimes wounded, moodiness, forgetful and disorganized, tiered and uncomfortable2. These complications include infection of STDs, which are sexually transmitted diseases, if a woman gets STDs while she is pregnant, it could muddle her pregnancy and cause dangerous effects to her and the baby. Some of these dangerous effects are; the mother and the baby could be diagnosed with HIV that results to having AIDS, Hepatitis B & C, HSV, HPV, BV, etc. Some of these diseases may be treated but some may not4 . Moreover, babies may be born with different types of health problems, called birth defects5. There are more than 4000 types of birth defects, “1 out of every 33 babies born each year in the United States have birth defects5. ” Some of these defects are minor and easily treated, while on the other hand others are more dangerous, and cannot be treated. They may cause disabilities to the baby5. According to Jeremy Bentham’s Hedonistic Calculus theory6, it would be okay to have an abortion. Therefore, in this condition of having a baby with disabilities, it would cause a miserable life to the parents, the child, and the family as a whole; consequently it is acceptable to have an abortion. If abortion is illegal, then we’re giving a chance for the child to be born with a type of defect, which will result to a life of suffering because he/she will not be able to enjoy life, hence, he/she may have to
