School counselors are essential in meeting the demands of the profession and addressing the needs of all students. As a school counselor, my mission is to provide guidance and support to students as they navigate their journey of academic and personal growth, helping them pursue their goals and reach their full potential. After completing my four-year degree, I began working as an intervention aide at a continuing education high school. My task was to provide support to a caseload of students who were off-track and help them get back on course to graduate. As I worked with these students throughout their final years of high school, I discovered a passion for counseling. It was fulfilling to offer guidance and assistance to these students who were facing challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. One particular student, who was a senior when I was assigned to him, had been written off by several staff members who believed he would never graduate. Despite their doubts, I worked tirelessly with him, and he ultimately walked the line with his classmates. This experience played a significant role in my decision to pursue a career as a school counselor. My mother has been a significant influence in my life, and her support remained unwavering when I made the decision to switch career paths and pursue a role as a school counselor.
