However, Elizabeth Kolbert has a valid argument.” She says, while Americans tend to put more emphasis on sports rather than learning, it is not the children that are at fault. She sees how sports are related to grades being you have to make sure you are eligible to play. Children have to watch their grades in order to be able to play sports in schools.
Dr. Daniel Gould, director of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports, in his essay “Are High School Sports Good For Kids?” argues that problems with high school sports are beginning to outway the benefits.. He supports his claim by providing evidence of how sports are beneficial to kids, explaining the problems within sports, and extending the importance of what creates a positive response from sports. Gould’s purpose is to inform coaches, principals, and parents about what makes sports beneficial and how to prevent the problems in order to allow kids to learn and become better citizens. He establishes an informative tone for coaches, principals, and parents.
Is it time to get rid of the American tradition of school sports? In the article, “Yes, It’s Time to Scale Back” the author Amanda Ripley expresses how sports are harmful to the students and school funds. However, in the article, “No Sports Are More Important than Ever” by Tim O’ Shei discusses how school sports benefit students. The article, “10 Reasons Why High School Sports Benefit Students” by Grace Chen also backs up why school sports are important. School sports are a reason for failing grades; on the other hand, there are many positive benefits to having them in schools.
According to " The Case Against High-School Sports" (2013), sports could create some study, health, and time management problems for schools and students. In this post, Amanda Ripley initially shows the benefits when involving in the high-school sports: exercise, sportsmanship lessons, some positive personalities, more fun and staying away from vices. She also writes some tales to inform readers that in the US, students are interested and enjoy in sports more than other peers in other countries. However, she claims that the high-school sports have negative effects on schools and students. Next, she gave some schools ' examples to show the problems when schools and students spent too much time and money in high-school sports.
Having sports integrated into high schools is important since it allows students to have the ability to gain valuable character traits needed for society with the addition of allowing lower income students to be able to enjoy the sport. Sports, especially team sports, give students the ability to learn valuable traits like “discipline, teamwork, a drive for success, the desire to be held accountable and a willingness to have their performance measured” (Sato). These skills mentioned in the article “The Case for High School Sports” by Kai Sato are vital to be functioning members of society. If students were to only focus on academics their whole life, it will only be beneficial till they exit college, since in someone's everyday life they will not be calculating the area of a circle but they will be communicating with
When everybody argues enough and then schools decides to keep sports their should be a fee of that parents have to pay for buses, and players have to pay for half of their uniform, and then the school pays for the other half. Don’t you think? The problem is that schools think that keeping sports is a financial burden and that sports bring down students academics. Schools should not get rid of sports because school sports help improve academics, sports can bring a community together, and sports can reveal character. Schools should not get rid of sports because sport programs help test and academics.

Sports help students to develop many skill and characteristic that carry throughout their life. High School Sports Should be Funded Every year 300,000 students are participating in sports (Gould 1). The School District has been funding the athletics program, which has been benefiting many of the students’ lives for several years. The discontinuation of high school sports will cause many students to loose the health, social and educational benefits provided by participating in athletics. The School District should continue to fund sports because they benefit students.
The stress can get so intense, it feels paralyzing. That’s why it is important than ever for schools to invest in their athletic programs,” states the sports article “Should Schools get rid of Sports.” Schools should keep their sports programs because they help improve academics, help improve mental and emotional health, and improves social skills like being on a team. Schools should not get rid of their sports programs because they help with student’s academics.
Some kids do not have the best family life, so being able to easily access something to get them out of their house can make a huge impact. Sports can also provide the opportunity for students to get athletic scholarships and help them evolve from a high school student athlete to a college student athlete. High schools having sports can open opportunities for things like easy fundraising, earning money from the game, and also allow a lot more people to be involved and supporting the school. On the other hand, schools could also be saving the money that they would use towards things like sports equipment, field and court maintenance, uniforms, coaches, busing, and also all the extra little things that have to be paid for. The money that would be saved could go towards things to better the classrooms and the learning environment for the students.
Sport in high school shouldn’t be taken away because it allow new students to make friends a lot easier. If we didn’t have sports in schools then there wouldn’t be professional sports anymore because the kids won’t be able to practice and not every kid has money to buy a ball or net and basketball hoop. It helps the student’s grades in classes because if they have low grades in one class they can’t play the sport so they try their hardest to raise the grade so they can play the sport. This is why I think they shouldn’t take away sports in high schools.
For a normal high school student their routine is always the same. Wake up, go to school, come home, watch TV or relax, and the common phrase of “oh I’ll do my homework later.” While a student athlete has to go to school and the to their sport of choice then they have to do their homework, so their grades don't slip and preventing them from participating in their sport of choice. While many may argue that our high school shouldn't be funded from lack of proper education I believe that our high should fund sports because, sports teach skills needed in the job world and can improves grades. You see in sports movies and TV shows that the athletes have a strong sense of leadership, well that isn't just a silver screen concept.
From the Friday night lights to the last second goal, school sports are a major part of the high school journey. High school sports are a great way for student-athletes to stay healthy, make new friends, and be a part of a team atmosphere. In addition, school sports keep kids off of the streets and lower the athlete's chance of committing a crime. School sports are a tremendous way for student-athletes to create new, meaningful relationships.
Sports can enhance the cooperative and strategic strategies. The passage states that, “understanding the competitive process entails an appreciation of the social nature of competition, particularly with regard to the cooperative and strategic aspects of sports and an awareness of the nature of individual roles within a cooperating group.” The last reason, which it the academic benefits, proves that you shouldn’t take away the sports for school. The kids that play sports benefit in the classroom a lot more than regular students.
