Self Reflection On Group Project

This semester compared to my other semesters, I ended up with a great team for a group project. My teammates included Devan Peplow, Mackenzie Hall, Henry Smith, and Brandon Johnson. The goal of this project as a whole was to find a problem on campus, come up with some prototypes and solutions, and gain feedback on those solutions. After many ideas, brainstorming and asking around campus, we came up with the idea of improving the on-campus transportation system. The idea consists of changing the Roadrunner busses to passenger vans and developing a student Uber-like system on campus to help students get to class on time and encourage parking in the lots that are further away from on campus. As great as this group and project has been, the class …show more content…

In my two years at TCU I have gotten to work on many team projects, unfortunately, though, there had been some bad apples on those teams. These few individuals cost our team a lot and all were involved in Greek life. Coming to TCU I knew that Greek life was a major part of campus life. I however have never felt the need or want to be involved in that since none of my family had ever been a part of those organizations. I also compared fraternities the movie Animal House and while many individuals do behave like that it is an unfair stereotype of fraternities. This has influenced a primacy bias whenever I am in a group with Greek life individuals. I understand now that this is very unfair of me especially since both Henry and Devan are involved in Greek life. While this bias does show up in me, I rarely act on it and in fact Henry and Devan I feel do it the right way and put their school first. It was informational power since all of us did our own interviews, and spoke to different people. With this power depending on what information was received, we would use it to put someone in a different direction and speak to someone else or put on a different task. I felt Devan had a lot of referent power since she was able to lead and keep everyone on task, and Mackenzie used her expert power when it came to design thinking and problem-solving. Besides that, it was really hard for me to determine individual powers especially since Brandon and Henry were very quiet. As a team, we got along very well, and everyone put input into discussions. When it came to political skills we all had our own strengths. I know apparent sincerity is my strength and I used to show interest in the project as well as to get questions I needed answers from others. Devan and Mackenzie were very good at networking. Both of them were able to reach out to people very easily and get there understanding of why we were reaching out to them. Henry and Brandon I thought were very good with the social aspect. They were quieter on the team, but they absorbed information and used that to their advantage. Influence is another part of power and politics, and reciprocity we used often. It was used mainly for little things such as splitting things up on the final paper if someone knew more about a
