Senior Project Reflection

For my Senior Project, I organized a Book Drive and used local businesses around Woodburn to help me complete my ultimate goal. My ultimate goal was to raise one hundred books so that students in elementary school have the possibility of taking a book home and reading it. The reason I picked this as my project was because as a child I was fortunate enough to have books at home and to spend the majority of my free time reading. Considering the amount of time I spent reading as a child, I feel like it has enhanced my reading, speaking, writing and has made me a more prolific English speaker. If I had ran out of books to read, we would go to Borders and pick up more just so I would read more and more. I understand the fact that some families may not have the liberty to go out and buy books for the children and to help enrich their minds from an early age. I want to change that with my project, I want kids to be able to take books home and to be able to spend their free time reading like I did and to make school easier down the road. Even if some kids don't necessarily read the books I give to them or even value them, I just want to reach one kid and perhaps enhance his reading, writing and speaking skills that will eventually help him further his education. I understood while working with the eight volunteers that they were fully devoted to helping me achieve this project and they were getting nothing out of it besides candy towards the end of the project. Not only did I enjoy working with Miss. Parra who is a down to earth and has a deep admiration for all of her students, but the eight volunteers that helped me. I have always really enjoyed being around kids and having to work with kids on a drool senior project really made the project so much more better. They really made the experience a lot more enjoyable and maintained my optimism I had for my project. Prior to my senior year, I had never used email and wasn’t very knowledgeable on its capabilities. One of my main forms of contact with Miss. Parra was email and I have become very knowledgeable on how to use Email after completing my senior project. Whilst working with my eight volunteers, I have become a little more patient and understanding of kids from the ages 5-12. I have always genuinely liked kids, but I have now adapted and enhance my skills on how to interact with
